200 Free Things!

Edition #69 – 7/28/2006

First of all, thank you all so much for your many kind words of congratulations and encouragement. My wife and I were blown away by the number of comments. Isabelle is indeed a special blessing from God, and we are very grateful for all of your support and prayers. To have readers who actually care is more than I could ask for, and I consider you all as friends.

In the last edition, I mentioned that I was going to be having a little sale to help pay for the expenses related to the birth of our beautiful baby girl, Isabelle.

As you may know, I’m doing very well on the internet, so it’s not a matter of unpaid hospital bills. However, our health insurance doesn’t cover any maternity-related expenses, which means we’ve got a nice $7,000-$10,000 to pay out-of-pocket.

Rather than pull that money out of savings (where it’s earning interest to pay for our kids college educations), I decided to do what I do best and put together a little promo to cover these costs.

My initial thought was to do a typical “we just had a baby” firesale, and bundle a bunch of resale-rights ebooks and stuff for a big blowout. However, the more I thought about it, the more I realized… nobody wants to see another firesale right now.

There’s just too many of them. It’s to the point now that there’s ALWAYS a big firesale going on, so there’s no need for me to add to the madness for the time being.

Besides that, most of those blowout-style firesales don’t result in you making a lot of money. They provide a LOT of hype, and a very LITTLE real value.

I wanted to provide something of value, that will last a long time, and have a good return on investment.

That’s how I came up with 200 Free Things!

When you ask the experts what things you REALLY need in order to make money on the internet, the biggest recurring themes you’ll hear are…

  • You need to build a list
  • You need traffic

(This offer is no longer available and the link has been removed)

We’ll be re-visiting the HyperVRE program with new information soon, and I’ve got plenty of good tips planned for the next month.

As always, you can leave your comments here in the blog.

    Have a great day!

    1. I am Stig Hagström.

I just have a curiosity question: Are you Swedish? As you might suspect I am – been here since 1957 (I bet you don’t even remember that year).

I will become 80 years old the 19th of August.

Where do you live? I live in Virginia in a city called Emporia, a God’s forgotten city – has nothing.

      Regards

      Hi Stig

Yes I am nearly 100% Swedish by ancestry. I’m in Colorado, but some of my ancestors immigrated to Minnesota early in the century.

      Happy birthday 🙂

      Eric,

I just know a little of HTML from ‘How to Build HTML’. If I’m not wrong, I have this book from you freely. If it is, I thank you for it. Now, my internet business stops at building a ecommerce website. Do you have the book or service in this? I live in Asia. But I like to pay small money to buy the book if have.

      Blessings,

      Alex

I like the concept you are using for your link sizzler site. Most of those sites just have no reason to be visited so I couldn’t actually see them working but with 200 free things there is actually a reason to check the site out. The only problem I have found is that most of the sites are not giving away any free stuff which kind of kills the purpose.

Just wanted to drop you a note to say that I enjoy your newsletter.
I hope to launch my first website soon. I have been studying hard
the workings of the internet marketing business for the last 8 months.
I’ve learned a great deal thanks to people like you. I’ve also picked
up a lot of useful “stuff” thanks to some great giveaways.

On another note, congrats on the beautiful young lady you have!
Better enjoy her, she’ll be grown up and gone before you know it!
      I have 2 children ages 26(Sept) and 22, 3 stepchildren ages 19, 17
      and 8, and 2 grandchildren 15 months and 21 months. That doesn’t
mean that I feel old. I have no trouble keeping up with any of them,
but I can’t believe that in 2 years I’ll be going to my 30 year reunion!
      Man does time fly.

Anyway, keep up the good work!

      Hey there Eric,

Hope everthing is fine with Isabelle and the new addition!
I’ve enjoyed and soaked up all of the info you’ve sent me
over the past year and hope too get something started.

Right now I’m sitting here wondering who or where I should
go to try and make some quick cash. The reason is because
I’ve just about run out of options and don’t know who too
trust anymore. You’re about the the only person online that I
can see that does’nt have Dollar signs in there messages sent
too me. To cut too the heart of my email, is that I NEED YOUR
      HELP!

If you could find it in your heart to guide me in the right path
where I can make some fast cash, I’ll do all I can to return the
favor. I only have about $50.00 too work with , so please take
      it easy on me.

      Your Friend,
      Denny

P.S. Believe it or not, but I’m 1/3 Swedish, and the other 2/3d’s
      German and Indian.

      Hi Eric!

Congrats on the new baby; so glad mommy and baby are well.

Thought I would chime in: Swedish and Finnish, here! My grandparents immigrated to Hibbing Minnesota. Grandpa worked in the copper mines. My great-grandmother was recognized by the Queen in Sweden when she was 104 years old. And we still have relatives living in my grandmother’s farm house in Finland.

I’d like to pass along a special keepsake for your wife. Please email me.

Thanks for the comments folks. Lots of Scandanavians 😉

Denzil- With a desperante situation and only $50 to work with, my inclination would be to say go find a job to get you by until you can invest a little more into your startup. If I had to start from scratch right now with only $50, here’s what I’d do. I’d get my website online and start building a list. Here’s how I’d spend the $50:

      1) I’d take $20 and get an Aweber account
      2) I’d use $9 to get a good domain here
      3) I’d get a $9.95 webhosting account at Hostgator. Use the coupon code ERICSTIPSCOUPON to get the first month for 1 cent ($9.94 discount).
      4) Find or create a free ebook to give away. Build an opt-in “squeeze page” to give away the ebook. The opt-in form will add them to your Aweber list.
      5) Since you used the Hostgator coupon, you’ll have about $20 left. I’d use that on Google AdWords to send traffic to your squeeze page for about 5 cents a click (you need to be creative with keywords and ads to get cheap clicks). That’ll pay for 400 clicks, and with a decent opt-in rate of 25% you should have a list of 100 people before your money runs out.
      6) Find a bunch of free advertising sources, and advertise your free ebook/squeeze page. Post on forums, blogs, free classifieds, etc. Join as many internet marketing giveawys as possible and get your freebie listed.
      7) Build a relationship with your list and then promote things to them.

I’m just saying, that’s what I would do if I only had $50 dollars. There are other ways you could spend the $50 and totally different approaches you could take. The thing you need to keep in mind is that this is NOT an instant process and it takes time to build your list and start making money with it. That’s why I say if you’re desperate then you better get a job while you’re building your online business.

Gail– about the keepsake, that’s cool. Please get in touch with me at the helpdesk to arrange.

I have an SFI site but don’t know if this is what you ask for when you say we can link to one another. Tells you that I am a newbie, very newbie on this internet marketing.

Congratulations on your new daughter. What a wonderful life God has given to you and your wife. One word of advice: start praying over your child now for all of the things you know she will need in her life including her salvation. One scripture states: choose this day how you see your daughter.

She was no small gal. I am praying that all of you know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour. If you donot, read Romans 8.

      Thanks for listening,
