What I’ve Been Up To Lately

By | June 27, 2014

Hey!

I was just thinking about this Eric’s Tips site, and realized it’s been more than a couple months since I posted anything. I also haven’t sent out a lot of emails lately, and haven’t published much this year.

With that in mind I want to offer a brief explanation and quasi-apology. I say quasi, because I’m not really sorry for what I’ve been doing, but I am sorry if any Eric’s Tips readers have felt neglected 🙂

Basically, I’ve just been practicing what I’ve been preachin’ over the past several years. My internet business is doing well, and I’m focusing more on other priorities. Eric’s Tips is all about building a business that allows you to work on your own terms and have the freedom to do the things you want to do. Life is short, so the time to focus on your priorities is always now.

For anyone who has been through the lessons, you know it’s not a get-rich-quick program. In fact, it’s a LOT of work to build a sustainable business. I’ve been doing this for quite a few years now, so in some respect you could say I’m enjoying the fruits of my labor. I’m not saying any of this to boast. It’s not an ego-trip or a humble-brag. I wouldn’t be posting it at all, except I think it’s important for anyone who is following my lessons to know that these methods do work, and are still working for me.

Over the years I’ve seen a lot of Internet marketing teachers come and go. I’ve seen many go out of business for various reasons. Some of them disappear without saying so much as good-bye to their subscribers. Some have reinvented themselves and bounced back; others have not. I’ve seen them make their millions and lose them just as quickly. Many times greed gets the best of people. Other times, it is simply a matter of unwise choices. Yet other times, the circumstances are beyond control.

I’ve certainly made my fair share of mistakes (which form the basis of some of my lessons), so I’m not one to point a finger. At the same time, I just want to let you know that things have been going pretty good lately. My business was doing well prior to the recession of 2008-2009, it did well during it, and it’s done well during the recovery right up through today. My income never took a hit during all those years, and this year is shaping up to be my best yet. This is proof the system works, but I cannot say this without also saying… all the glory goes to God my provider!

A few years ago, I reported that I was experiencing some health issues, and I’m happy to report that my health is good. Again I’m not saying this because I think I’m great or that you even care. But I feel I owe it to my readers on some level to give you an update on this. As you know, health is a blessing and shouldn’t be taken for granted.

So what have I been doing?

For one, I’ve taken up road biking in the past year, and as any fellow cyclists will attest, it’s a time-consuming activity 🙂

I’ve devoted quite a bit of time to ministry stuff, such as helping my wife with the dance ministry, and leading mission trips. I’m leaving on a trip tomorrow morning, and I’ll be home for only two days before embarking on another trip.

We purchased a second home on a lake down in Louisiana, where we’ve been doing some projects in the community. Now we’re happy to call the place home, and when we go there we’re going to be with friends, not just to do projects. Come to think of it, we’ve bought a bunch of investment properties in the past year. Remember way back in lesson #6 I talked about the Cash Flow Quadrant? Well I’ve been focusing a little more on the investor quadrant lately. I’ll talk some more about that stuff in lesson #99 later this year.

Bottom line, I’ve actually been very busy (perhaps too busy) and working hard… just not on this visible side of my business.

I’ve still been working on my business too, but the time spent on my business has mostly been on specific income-producing activities such as doing promotions and product launches. In essence, my business has been more in maintenance mode, rather than growth mode. But thanks to the leveraging nature of the Internet, the business has still been growing too. If you have a limited amount of time (and we all do), I’d recommend prioritizing the income producing activities in regard to the time you spend on your business.

What does this mean for the future of Eric’s Tips? Actually not much has changed. I expect things will slow down a little later this summer, and I plan to finish creating the 100 lessons. Beyond that I have some big plans for Eric’s Tips and will continue to deliver top quality money-making tips and tools.

If you have any questions or comments please leave them below. It might be a little while before we moderate and answer comments, as I’ll be mostly offline for a bit, and my brother-in-law Micah (who often moderates this site) is in the middle of a mission to Brazil. But we will get to it!

Thanks again for reading my tips, and I’ll be in touch… hopefully soon!

Blessings,
Eric

Very honestly you have given us enough through these lessons that I, speaking for myself, do not need to hear from you, and actually don’t want to. This not in deference to you, because I have learned a lot from you, but to be honest there is enough pressure, enough pounding, and enough ridiculous bullshit that goes on with these marketers who insist that I have to have an email from them every single day, with a different product that they are pushing every single day. Quite frankly I do not like Internet Marketing, and I also do not like that just because I bought one product from somebody, it gives them license to pound me silly with another product.
I suggest you enjoy your life as you are doing and let me get to the products I did buy from you, and review some of the products that I didn’t, so that when you come back I will be in better shape to enjoy seeing your emails again.

Your methods in the lessons are outdated and NOT sustainable. Paid traffic is the new best marketing strategy nowadays since it is very leveragable and does not rely on algorithms. It is also unlimitless. Forget SEO and article marketing. Too much work.

Apparently you have not seen all the lessons because I spend about as much time teaching paid traffic as I do free traffic 🙂 Also, there is always more than one way to skin a cat. There are plenty of free traffic methods that work. What you’re seeing right now is a lot of people SELLING paid traffic courses so it seems like the only thing.

    2. Brian

You’re accidentally right when you say paid traffic is “unlimitless” – meaning, of course, that it is NOT limitless. It is limited by your ability to pay for it.

More to the point, “paid” and “unpaid” traffic are not mutually exclusive. You can do both – and they both have a very legitimate place in a marketing strategy.

Michael, Internet marketing, like many businesses, frequently changes. However, Eric has provided this free site to share his experiences. Granted that some of the lessons may appear dated, but the principles of running an online business are spot on. Eric has clearly explained the differences of free traffic and paid traffic. He has also addressed SEO and article marketing. In addition, he also has explained that it takes a lot of work.

You have publicly admitted that it’s “Too much work.”

That’s exactly what’s wrong for so many people who try this business.

I think you owe Eric an apology, and I think you need to evaluate yourself.

I agree with you, T. Dean Snyder! I think Eric has delivered what he purported to bring to us. When the information is dated, he states it as such. For any newbie wanting to find out where he wants to work, this is an excellent tool. It provides the many different avenues as well as how to traverse them. If anyone wants or need any further information, the internet is full of them. I think Eric has provided some great content and I look forward to his emails every day (I was wondering why I hadn’t received them lately). In addition, I like Eric’s Tips and Eric Holmlund and appreciate that he is a man of God and puts God first. And, when I’m done, if time permits, I may go through them again to hone in on anything that I missed . I will definitely share the information I’ve received. Thank you, Eric, for all you do!

      Hello Mark,

With large companies, you won’t get special partnerships, unless you also are a big company. However, if you are just setting up a cross promo with a fellow marketer, sometimes you can come to an agreement outside of the normal affiliate program.

I love the concept of having the time and money to do what you want. Like you I have a passion to please God and want to Him use me in many ways as time goes by as my resources of time and money increase.

I eventually discovered that my adrenal fatigue was rooted in the fact that I have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis, so my energy levels are still a major factor although that is manageable with a good diet and good stewardship of time and work load.

I want to close by commending you on Eric’s Tips as a great resource and teaching series. Do you have or can you create for us an index to all the lessons? I’d like to go back over a few. I pray the Lord will bless you in His plans for Eric’s Tips.

Eric- Welcome back ! We missed you. I’m glad to hear that you intend to finish the Lessons. Please note that I consider these lessons to be the most authorative & helpful “Fact-sheets” ever published on the internet. Are the lessons (with index) now available to subscribers (or collectors) ? If not, please devise a system to make them available ? Best Wishes. A quick note regarding Missions. Let it be known that missions to some countries are considered illegal, (& in some cases considered Capital offenses) So missions there should be discouraged/prevented. Let them confine their activities to where they are welcome.

Hi Erick and or Micah. Thanks for letting me know you are still active. I really appreciate your classes and have applied many of them in order to create my website.( thakanon.org ) I am attempting to market a completely new musical instrument . A product which I invented based on new information which I have discovered about Pythagoras and his resonance healing techniques that I truly believe was taught to him in secret by tha Essenes. As a Christian you may already be aware that tha Essenes are tha tribe that several hundred years after Pythagoras brought us tha Messiah Yeshua. According to my theories Pythagoras musical teachings were tha same as those practiced and handed down by Solomon – also an Essene – as was Moses before him – Tha original Essenes were of tha tribe of Enoch which pertain to tha beginning of biblical history. My time is consumed by my ongoing research and teaching tha few serious students I have developed over tha years. Over tha past 7 years I have sold only 250 musical instruments in Mexico where I live and in Brazil where I have been invited twice to give seminars. I live very cheaply in Mexico and have not made enough to support a marketing agenda. Tha niche for resonance healing is still very small but expanding rapidly. Of course after studying your lessons tha obvious solution is to find super/afiliates such as yourself or possibly one of your students? to do tha marketing for a high percentage of tha gross profit. Please check out my site – and get a hold of me directly if interested – I answer all enquires –
    Thanks – Jim – thakanon.org

    Hello, Eric,

Because you mentioned health issues I had to write this response. My current project is my second book (working title: Why Fit People Drop Dead). My first, available on Amazon, is A (Patented) Heart Disease Cure That Works (subtitle: What Your Doctor May Not Know . . . What Big Pharma Hopes You Don’t Find Out).

Statin drugs do not “cure” heart disease, but their side effects (greater in number than you might expect) are doing permanent harm to a lot of people — muscle damage, memory loss, dementia, even heart attacks. I discovered a 1994 patent — a cure for coronary artery disease — seven years ago, after 17 years of going from bad to worse with statins. An angiogram four years later determined I now had “No obstructive disease.” This, after having had blockages of 80 to 90 percent in critical heart arteries plus the insertion of three stents.

If your health issue is heart disease, please take a look at my site — you can read key pages from my own medical record there. I built the site and wrote the book in an attempt to educate people about the dangers of statins and to let them know there is an inexpensive “natural” way to prevent, reverse and even cure heart disease. So far, though, neither has gained much traction. It frustrates me thinking about the lives that could be saved, the misery that could be prevented, and even what it could mean for Medicare and private insurers if heart disease was no more.

I’ve been following you for a while now Eric and have to say you are one of the few genuine internet marketing teachers out there.Other people bombard us with fancy infomercials that don’t really say a lot exept sign up give me your money and then dissapear but Eric’s Tips is there year after year giving good solid advice helping people to grow their online business. The products that you sell are all tried and tested and work if done properly.Unlike other guru’s we never see Eric driving fancy sports cars pulling into huge fancy houses and telling us this could be you if you follow the plan. With Eric it’s a normal guy doing what he teaches and having a normal happy life.I also like the way you speak your mind on products that are rubbish you have saved a lot of people an awful lot of money with this no nonsence approach. It’s nice to see you enjoying the fruits of your labour and enjoying your mission work.May Eric’s Tips go on for many years to come.

Hi Eric, I read a lot about how bloggers need to be posting at least 2 or 3 times a week to keep an audience and traffic, but I don’t believe that is true if what you are posting is not well thought through and useful to someone. You have often said building a list is critical to business success and when you have something worth saying you can then let people know.

Personally for me that seems like a much more sensible approach, especially when you are dealing with real people. As someone mentioned earlier, most people don’t want emails every day from someone when the message hasn’t really changed. And in the end when that happens the emails just get labelled as spam or people unsubscribe, that’s a normal human response.

When I get an email from you, I tend to have a look, because I know you mostly have something I am probably going to be interested in. Not everything you write, but I am sure you wouldn’t really expect that to be the case.

Getting a work/life balance is very important so if you are working on something fulfilling and taking care of your health at the same time, then I can’t see why anyone would have a problem with that. I certainly don’t and I am looking forward to seeing some more of your lessons when you have time to do them.

When I see anyone in business reaching out to a secular audience but who brings up their religion, I run the other way. My brother, who is a Lutheran minister agrees with me on this concern.

However, after seeing Eric’s work over the years and becoming a customer, I’m glad I made an exception. He’s the real deal and constantly over delivers. When Eric posts, I read. When he promises, he keeps them.

Question??…For Eric and everyone here, this may sound silly, I would love to do Niche in Camping, something to do with camping, something to do with outdoors, because its where I grow up, I’m 43 years old now and a good portion of my life involves, my experiences, my knowledge, my ideas, my passion is about the wilderness. What I’m saying is as a kid, I remember we spending a Year in camp,(a few times) from one summer to another summer without seeing civilisation or would see on occasion, family remembers, sometime we spend seasons in camp either it be in the summer, spring, fall or winter, I loved all those experiences I spent in camps. As a matter of fact, I didn’t wanted to leave the life that I had and spent there, good memories and a beautiful place to be, anyways, before I start writing a whole article here lol, would be possible or somehow monetize a niche in camping with this knowledge.
